Fellows in Focus: Building Your Career Foundations

At Spectrum Science, we are dedicated to growing and mentoring the marketing and communication leaders of tomorrow. Our Fellowship Program is a launch pad for careers in healthcare marketing, communications, and media that provides participants with exposure to top leadership, on the job training, and a foundational skillset for their future.  

Fellows are full-time employees who are integrated into teams across our business where they gain hands-on experience. They also receive trainings on various capabilities and soft skills from top subject matter experts in our organization and complete a group capstone project at the end of the program.  Upon completion of the program, utilizing their newly acquired skills to continue their career growth at Spectrum. 

This week’s Fellows in Focus features Beau Cunningham, an Account Executive on our Client Services team who graduated from the Fellows program in December of 2024. He reflects on his time in the program and gives some helpful advice to those looking to apply. Read more about what Beau had to say. 

1. How would you describe the Fellowship Program to someone who knows little about it?   

Spectrum’s Fellowship program is a unique opportunity for recent college graduates to dive into their careers. Throughout the program, Fellows will learn a broad range of skills not commonly taught in collegiate courses, including soft skills, communicating with colleagues, what it means to work at an agency, and appropriately interact with clients. Additionally, Fellows are exposed to all parts of Spectrum’s business offerings such as Advertising, Clinical Trial Experience, Communications, Consulting, Media, and Medical Communications.  

2. What are your typical current responsibilities and challenges — what’s your average day like? How does it compare to your time as a Fellow?  

I am currently an Account Executive serving some of Spectrum’s biotech clients. My role consists of a variety of responsibilities depending on the client’s needs and maintains a balance of account management activities and project support. As an Account Executive, I help support the Client Services team, while also interacting with colleagues from across the organization on various projects.   My role allows me to interact with clients daily to ensure projects are moving forward strategically and efficiently. 

3. What type of skills do you feel enable success within the Fellowship Program? 

The Fellowship Program offers a valuable opportunity for individuals willing to learn how their knowledge can be put to use. A Fellow who can work in a fast-paced environment, has a strong willingness to learn and work on multiple projects at once will find success at Spectrum! The Fellowship Program is a unique opportunity to work with a company that fosters professional development and has an authentic appreciation and care for its employees.  

4. Any advice for people interested in applying to the Fellowship Program?
